As an educated guess I would say around 98% of the time you should not spend the morning or the day after a massage or sports therapy session feeling as though you have been run over by a small truck.

Mostly when this is the case the therapist has tried to access the deeper tissues and fibres too quickly without releasing the superficial or upper, tissue and fibres first; they have bruised you.

There are occasions when discomfort will be felt after an appointment but this should be explained before the treatment.

If our sports people were treated in such a way they would not be able to train properly or even compete the following day; discomfort through treatments and bruising tissues is not what sports therapy is about.

A definition for Sports Therapy may well be something along the lines of:

the skilled application of a wide range of therapeutic techniques which, facilitate the therapist in carrying out such skills to enable them to advise and treat a client in the prevention, recognition and treatment of a sports related injury and to help support the client to maintain and improve fitness levels in order to maximise performance potential. These techniques are selected and performed after careful consultation, recording of medical history and appropriate general and specific assessment.

With an understanding of biomechanics we are in a position to better treat you for your discipline rather than just generally for your sport, or for your everyday tasks for that matter.

A sports injury is only a sports injury because it happened during sport, everyday injuries, aches and pains are just the same and get the same quality treatment.

Our minimum treatment time is an hour and you are charged for the treatment not the time; if it takes 15 minutes longer to treat you there is no price adjustment.

“I’m sorry your times up”
